The Tractor Trailer Driver Training Program is a 200 hour, in-person curriculum that runs across eight weeks. During the course of our training students will learn the skills required for a career as an AZ Commercial Driver.

WHAT CAN I DRIVE WITH THIS LICENSE?

“AZ” license holders are qualified to drive a motor vehicle and towed vehicles where the towed vehicles exceed a total gross weight of 4,600 kilograms (10,000 lb). This also includes straight trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks and vans should they wish.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER?
  • Air Brake Training Course [Saturday and Sunday 8:00am-3:00pm]
  • PDIC Course
  • Dangerous Goods Course
  • Logbook and Safety Course
  • Observation and Review
  • ROAD TESTS: 3 Road Test Attempts
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

Our course is 6-8 weeks in length consisting of 200 hours of training.

In-Class Training:

  • Monday/Tuesday/ Wednesday Mornings: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Monday/Tuesday/ Wednesday Evenings: 6:00 pm-10:00 pm

In Cab/ Yard Training (Ave 10-14 HR/Week)

  • 60 Hours one on one with the Instructor
  • 40 Hours Group yard work- Max 4 students per class covering Backing/Inspection/Coupling/Uncoupling)
WHAT WILL I GRADUATE WITH?
  • A Class License
  • Z Endorsement
  • PDIC Course Certificate
  • Dangerous Good Certificate
  • Log Book and Safety Course Certificate
  • Program Completion Certificate for Insurers and Employers
WHAT DO I NEED BEFORE I CAN BEGIN?
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ License or higher
  • Grade 10 English or Equivalent
  • Successfully Complete Ministry Approved
  • Aptitude Testing
  • Medical is needed
  • Written Test CLS A -Permit

CAN I GET A JOB AFTER I COMPLETE THIS PROGRAM?

The short answer is: yes, The trucking industry here in Canada is full of opportunities and possibilities. The long answer is below:

  • According to the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council Study, over the next few years demand for AZ drivers is expected to steadily rise. In 2014, the trucking industry was short 38,000 drivers. The shortage was expected to reach nearly 48,000 by the end of 2015.
  • If the current trend holds, the shortage may balloon to almost 175,000 by 2024. Over the next decade, the trucking industry will need to hire a total 890,000 new drivers, or an average of 89,000 per year. Replacing retiring truck drivers will be by far the largest factor, accounting for nearly half of new driver hires (45%). The second largest factor will be industry growth, accounting for 33% of new driver hires.
  • Conclusion: opportunities exist for you to secure a rewarding career for yourself and play an important role in a growing and technologically advanced service industry.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER?

AZ COMMERCIAL COURSE OUTLINE
During the course of our training students will learn the skills required for a career as an AZ Commercial Driver. Our program covers the laws and procedures that regulate the trucking industry. Training will include but is not limited to the following:

  • The environmental conditions that affect equipment performance;
  • Basic operating and vehicle manoeuvring skills to ensure they are confident behind the wheel.
  • The rules and practices for safe operation.
  • Students of our program will gain the skills required to obtain a commercial driver position within the transportation sector.

Competent drivers must know not only how to operate the particular class of equipment to which they have been assigned but also be aware of hazards associated with the work they have been asked to do They will be able to operate equipment in a manner that protects both their own safety and the safety of others in the their workplace.

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

WHAT WILL I GRADUATE WITH?

AT COURSE COMPLETION:
Further to course completion students will be awarded the following:

  • AZ Commercial Driver Training Certificate from the 103.5 hour training program.
  • A certificate from the TTSAO that our graduates are insurable drivers with all major insurance companies.
  • Class AZ License from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation
  • WHMIS, PDIC, and Dangerous Goods Certification.

  • Grade 10 English or Equivalent
  • Successfully Complete Ministry Approved Aptitude Testing
